Welcome Back for Term 4
Learning Space 8
I hope you have all had a good holiday. It was wonderful to have so much support for your children at our end of the term Writers Cafe. They certainly can be proud of their positive attitudes and the great effort they put into all areas of their learning.
We have another full and engaging term of learning ahead.
Our inquiry topic this term is a Social Science unit titled ‘ Pasifika Culture’ The children will be comparing different cultures. With a focus being on the different cultures within Learning Space 8.
For reading we will be following a daily programme of guided instruction at each child’s group level. Along with an author study.
In writing our focus is on poetry writing. We will continue with writing recounts based on personal experiences and will also be integrating our Social Science topic into our writing programme.
This term in mathematics we will continue to build on number knowledge and strategies. Along with fractions, patterns and relationships, and a measurement unit on time.
Physical education our initial focus is on athletics skills with the school athletics day being held in Week 4 on Friday 9th November. Swimming lessons begin on Tuesday 6th November. A letter will be sent home explaining further.
Your child will bring home a reader four days per week. Please listen to your child read each night and ask questions to help develop their understanding. Thank you for ensuring they return their book bag each day with their daily reader and signed log book.
At times optional maths and spelling work may be sent home to support learning in the classroom.
Our library day is Friday. Please ensure your child returns their library book each week so they may take a new one home.
Finally, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s welfare or learning, please contact me. I am available in the morning before school or you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
